Looking for something new to do in Virginia Beach? Check out Owl Creek Landing—Virginia Beach’s newest outdoor adventure destination! Nature and excitement come together on 38 acres of pristine forest. Whether you’re a local looking for a fresh way to spend a day outdoors or a visitor seeking a unique experience, this attraction offers something for everyone. Whether climbing to new heights in a 6-story observation tower, gliding down the longest spiral slide in the U.S. or strolling through treetop trails, Owl Creek Landing offers an unforgettable adventure for all ages. Most of the attraction is accessible, enabling people of all abilities and families with strollers to partake in the unique space that was built with sustainability and minimal disruption to the site’s natural beauty.
Reach for the Sky: Nautilus Lookout Tower
The Nautilus Lookout Tower is a 65-foot-tall open-air tower built among the towering trees. To put it in perspective, 65 feet is about six stories high. Modeled after European designs, the tower is the first of its kind in the U.S.! It is an understatement to say it provides a unique way to experience Virginia Beach.
To get to the top, walk up the seven-foot wide, fully accessible spiral ramp that increases in height at a steady grade. The ramp meets all ADA guidelines, so people of all abilities can reach the top. While ascending the tower, take a minute to catch your breath and read the education stations that introduce information about native trees and wildlife, which are located at several points along the ramp. If you prefer to get your heart rate pumping, you can climb one of the interior staircases to reach the tower’s top.
At the summit of the observation tower is an 80-foot wide open-air observation deck, providing an immersive forest experience. Take some time to catch your breath, snap some photos and savor the stunning views that define this unique destination.
To return to the bottom, meander down the ramp or take the stairs for a leisurely descent. Another option, which we highly recommend, is the Nautilus Lookout Tower Slide.
The Nautilus Lookout Tower Slide: The Longest Spiral Slide in the U.S.
For those who want a more thrilling exit, take the longest spiral slide in the U.S.! The stainless-steel slide spirals through the center of the tower. As you glide down on a felted wool mat provided by the park, the slide’s upper section—crafted with Plexiglass—allows sunlight to filter through, giving you spectacular views during your ride!
Please note that taking the slide requires an additional ticket, which you can purchase at the Owl Creek Landing entrance or the tower’s top deck.
Canopy Walk Loop with Trails and Treehouses
Another part of Owl Creek Landing to enjoy is the Treetop Trail Canopy Walk—a quarter-mile treetop trail loop that soars 30-40 feet off the ground. The elevated trail also has a short off-shoot to the Children’s Treehouse Village, a set of four treehouses suitable for children as young as two, making it an ideal play area for families. The trails have netting, so there’s no need for any special equipment to enjoy the walkways. Access the elevated neighborhood from the fourth level of the tower.

Mile-Long Network of Walking Trails on the Ground
Another way to enjoy the beauty of the area is by walking along the mile-long network of walking trails that snake around the tower and through the forest, generally following the Canopy Trail’s path. If some people in your group prefer to stay on the ground, they can enjoy the scenic walking trails while still following those above in the trees. So extend your stay at the site and immerse yourself in the natural surroundings. Maybe even enjoy a picnic lunch for nourishment and rest.
Owl Creek Landing Amenities
Speaking of lunch, refuel at on-site food carts with a selection of tasty coffee drinks, snacks and beverages, which provide the perfect pit stop after a day of exploration and excitement. You can also bring in your own food and non-alcoholic drinks. Whether grabbing a quick bite between activities or settling in for a leisurely meal with friends and family, you’ll find plenty of options to keep your energy up for the next adventure.
Eco-Friendly Innovation: Sustainable Construction
As previously mentioned, a standout feature of Owl Creek Landing is its commitment to preserving the environment. The design of Owl Creek Landing and the Nautilus Tower incorporates the trees at the heart of the attraction, inviting visitors to enjoy being in nature with minimal environmental disturbance. The tower’s innovative foundation system is minimally invasive and expertly crafted to mimic the root system of a tree without the need to pour tons of concrete, ensuring a strong and stable, environmentally friendly structure.
